When I saw this video on PointeMagazine.com, I knew I had to see it! As someone who loves the entire creation process of ballet and theatre, from the actual scenes and choreography, to stage and set design, lighting design, and costume design, I love this video of Ballet West’s Costume Production Director, David Heuvel and the process it took to create the tutu for the lead role in BW’s production of The Firebird.
“We’re here to do ballet, not costumes.”
What a beautiful statement. I especially love the language he uses to describe the piece: a classical tutu appearing to be stiff and rigid. “The costume has to move with the artist, breathe with the artist.”
